Fishing for Shad in the Nottoway River

Shad fishing is a rite of Spring in Virginia! The Nottoway River offers anglers the opportunity to target shad in a beautiful, remote swamp setting. Aquatic Education Coordinator, Alex McCrickard, teams up with Fisheries Biologist, Eric Brittle, and Video Production Manager, Ron Messina, to show you this unique resource. Eric highlights the life cycle of shad and the timing of the runs of these anadromous fish in Southeast Virginia, as well as best access points to this resource for anglers fishing from a boat or from the bank. Alex highlights tactics and techniques to successfully catch shad on both a spinning rod and a fly rod.
