Trout Slam Hat: This is easily my top pick from ShopDWR. Virginia has so many tremendous trout resources and there’s no better way to celebrate them than by sporting a slick lid with an incredible logo.
Guide to Freshwater Fishes of Virginia: This guide is literally one of a kind. You will not find another book that captures the breadth of fish species within the commonwealth. The illustrations are fantastic and the size of the book is perfect to slip into a pack and bring along on my next fishing trip or sampling excursion. Plus, there are a handful of signed copies available if you are looking for something unique.
Meagan Thomas – Watchable Wildlife Biologist
Falcon Fierce Bandanna and Notebook: I may be biased because I’m one of the biologists who works with the peregrine falcon pair in Richmond, but I absolutely love the Falcon Fierce bandanna and notebook! This is a great item for any of the Falcon Cams thousands of followers to show off their falcon pride, or gift to someone you know who loves to follow the Falcon Cam livestream. I love how versatile bandannas are, and the artwork on this one is so original! Plus, the notebook is the perfect size for recording field notes and observations from a day outdoors.
David Hennaman – Conservation Police Officer
Virginia Wildlife 2020 Collector’s Knife: The 2020 knife is the perfect fixed-blade knife for anyone that enjoys the outdoors. Small enough to fit comfortably in a front or back pants pocket yet sturdy enough to handle any job. I’ve used this knife for everything from cutting rope to cleaning ducks and completely field dressing and processing several deer.
DWR Blaze Orange Hat: The blaze orange DWR logo hat is my go to Christmas gift for the outdoor enthusiast that has it all. I’ve gifted a bunch of these hats that inevitably become the wearer’s “Lucky Hat”.
Katie Martin – Deer, Bear, Turkey Biologist
Run for the Wild Hat: This hat is super lightweight and breathable (for those hot steamy summer runs), folds up and easily stashes in your running vest. It features awesome graphics and, the best part, it GLOWS in the DARK!
Living with Bears Handbook: This book is an excellent resource for private citizens and wildlife professionals alike to learn about black bear biology, behavior, and how to prevent problems while living and recreating in bear country. It has easy to follow tips and information that every citizen in Virginia can benefit from reading to help them be #BearWise while at home, at work, or recreating in Virginia.
