The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is proud to offer this Hunting Mentor Program to assist adults who are interested in hunting to develop the skills and acquire the resources needed for a successful hunting experience by offering first-hand experiences in the field with a knowledgeable mentor.
If you’re interested in learning more about hunting and how hunting is an essential part of wildlife conservation in Virginia, or if you’re a hunter eager to help new hunters learn, we urge you to give the Hunting Mentor Program a try. We at DWR want to encourage success for new hunters by helping pair them with hunters who can assist them in gaining the skills and knowledge needed to not only have a successful day in the field, but also to understand hunting and its role in wildlife conservation.
The Hunting Mentor Program is built in partnership with our Volunteer Program. All DWR Hunting Mentors are certified DWR volunteers and have gone through an extensive training and vetting process. Many of our Mentors also volunteer for other programs at DWR.
