The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), in partnership with Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation, invites the archery and conservation community to participate in the 2026 DWR Archery Open. The second annual competition will take place Saturday, January 10th, 2026 in Richmond, Virginia, featuring opportunities for youth and adult level competitors. Event proceeds will contribute to connecting people to conservation. Prizes for all classes will be based on registration and sponsorships.

New for 2026
Try Archery
New to archery? Beginners are welcome to join DWR volunteers and conservation partners on our “Try Archery” range. Experienced instructors will provide everything you need to be successful and safe. No experience or equipment is needed to join the fun! There will also be some fun breakout sessions! Check out the Try Archery schedule for more info.
Open Championship
For more competition and big payouts, join the Open Championship, where experienced archers compete for a share of up to 75% of the registration pool in cash prizes. Registration is $150. The more competitors, the bigger the payout — see official rules for full details.
Conservation Exhibit Hall
In addition to all tournament activities, Virginia DWR invites the public to visit the Conservation Exhibit Hall to connect with exhibitors from our conservation community!

2026 Try Archery Schedule
The Try Archery range will be open from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM EST to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis and will feature the following breakout sessions:
- 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM: Shoot with the Pros: Experienced competitive archers will be on-site for Q&A and for coaching new or intermediate archers.
- 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM: 3D Archery Instruction with Fellowship of the Arrow: Learn about the ins and outs of 3D archery with Fellowship of the Arrow, a fellowship of shooters with a passion for traditional archery in the heart of Virginia.
- 2:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Adaptive Archery with Jacobs Chance: Cheer on participants from Jacobs Chance, a non-profit dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through inclusive programs fostering growth and connection.
