The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) invites the archery and conservation community to participate in the 2025 DWR Archery Open. This inaugural competition will take place Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Richmond, Virginia and will feature opportunities for youth and adult level competitors. Event proceeds will contribute to connecting people to conservation.

DWR Archery Open Prize Structure
DWR is excited to announce prizes available to the following division winners for the DWR Archery Open. All 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each division will receive a finisher’s medal. For all 1st and 2nd place divisions, winners will receive a Vortex prize kit. Prize values may increase based on division registration and event sponsorship.
In addition to division prizes, all registered youth will be entered into a raffle for two opportunities to win a youth bow courtesy of Backwoods Warriors and Dance’s Sporting Goods!

DWR Conservation Exhibit Hall
In addition to all tournament activities, Virginia DWR invites the public to visit the Conservation Exhibit Hall to connect with exhibitors from our conservation community!
Exhibit Hall Hours: 10 AM – 5 PM
- Green Top Try Archery Demo: Stop by Green Top’s Archery trailer and try out different bow types and targets.
- Backwoods Warriors Raffle: In addition to a raffle opportunity for all registered youth, Backwoods Warriors will be raffling off a new HOYT Alpha AX-2 or the Mathews Lift X and a $500 Dances Sporting Goods Gift Card with a 10% off on all accessories for the bow.

What is the venue like?
The Richmond Raceway Exhibit Hall is an indoor 50,000 square-foot facility that will feature up to 55 targets, allowing 220 potential archers to compete during each flight. The DWR Archery Open will also host a Conservation Exhibit Hall that will feature archery and outdoor equipment retailers, wildlife and conservation exhibits, and more!
What is the schedule for the event?
- Friday, January 10th: Check in will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Richmond Raceway Exhibit Hall. Archers do not have to check in on Friday. Please check at least 1 hour before your flight time.
- Saturday, January 11th
- 9:00 a.m.: Doors and check in open. Practice range is open for all registered archers.
- 11:00 a.m.: First flight begins
- 11:00 a.m.: Practice range for archers registered at 3:30 is open
- 3:30 p.m.: Second flight begins
- 7:30 p.m.: Awards Ceremony will begin after all scores are finalized.
Where do I park and check in?
Free parking will be available in front of the Exhibit Hall. Please follow all directional signage. Archers will need to check in at the registration desk located in the lobby of the main Exhibit Hall. You will receive your giveaways and valuable tournament information upon check-in.
Will youth and adult archers compete together?
Youth divisions will be on a separate range but will be shooting right alongside adult archers! Our goal is to give young archers a chance to compete in their respective class right alongside their mentors to see what their hard work and dedication can get them. Will there be practice ranges available?
Practice ranges are included with your registration cost.
Will there be prizes awarded?
Awards and prizes will be based on registration and sponsorships.
How will scoring work?
We will be using electronic scoring as well as paper score cards. More information will be provided by email at a later date.
