Richmond Falcon Cam

First Egg

  • April 2nd, 2020

The female has presented as increasingly lethargic on camera over the past several days, a sign of an upcoming egg laying event.  She finally laid her first egg in the early evening of April 2.  This marks the first egg laid at this site since 2017, and the first egg ever laid by this particular female.  Although we do not yet know how many more eggs she will produce, the average clutch size for peregrine falcons in Virginia consists of 4 eggs.  Eggs are laid at intervals of 48 to 72 hrs, so look for the next egg to be laid sometime on April 4th or 5th.
