Notice
Seasonal Road Closures on WMAsSeasonal roads on Wildlife Management Areas are being closed early where possible due to the persistent poor winter conditions. Description

Elevation: 1154 ft.

The pullout along the road to Goose Point provides access to a nature trail traversing forest and open fields. Once stepping into the forest, white-tailed deer start appearing almost everywhere; they seem to be grazing around every corner. This tranquil setting is perfect for a variety of eastern woodland birds such as mourning dove, ruby-throated hummingbird, downy, red-bellied and pileated woodpeckers, eastern wood-pewee, blue jay, Carolina chickadee, tufted titmouse, white-breasted nuthatch, blue-gray gnatcatcher, eastern bluebird, cedar waxwing, red-eyed vireo, ovenbird, indigo bunting, eastern towhee, and chipping sparrow. American goldfinch can be seen feeding on the massive bull thistles at the edge of the forest.

A map of the WMA is available on our website. Specifically, this site details the section of quality deer management and public hunting area surrounding SR 822/Goose Point Rd just southwest of Goose Point Park. The entire WMA encompasses far more territory along both sides Philpott Lake and west of Fairy Stone State Park.
