Fort C.F. Smith Park

Description

Two-thirds of this 19-acre park is comprised of meadows and hardwood forests. A 1/2 mile of trails is available to assist in strolling the grounds. During the warmer months, the meadows around the parking lot are cloaked by wildflowers, which support a variety of butterflies. These same meadows attract a variety of seed-eating birds, such as vesper, field, song and savannah sparrows, plus American goldfinch and indigo bunting which in turn attract a variety of hawks. Other possible bird sightings include: barred and screech owls, scarlet tanager, Baltimore oriole, Eastern meadowlark, common yellowthroat, magnolia and black-throated blue warbler.
