Seaview Farm

Description

Seaview Farm is bordered by woodland, pond, and marsh habitat. It is protected from development by a conservation easement with the Virginia Eastern Shore Land Trust. Visitors are welcome to explore the grounds, including walking along the circle road and any of the unmarked trails.

Wading birds are common in the marsh during summer and migrations bring a variety of sandpipers that can be viewed near the boat dock, and from the marsh trail. Wintering waterfowl occur here, as well as the neotropical migrants that visit the woodland during spring and fall. The four-acre pond holds ducks, geese, other birds, and reptiles. Resident woodpeckers, quail, woodcock, turkey, and deer inhabit the area year-round. A butterfly garden provides habitat for a variety of common eastern butterfly species near the house. The phantom crane fly, one of the most attractive insects in North America due to its banded black and white coloring, inhabits the wet forest understory of the woods trail.

Notes:

  • The grounds are open to foot traffic only. Please park in the designated area and do not drive anywhere else on the property.
