The Reynolds Homestead provides access to 712 acres of fields and hardwood forest on the slopes of No Business Mountain. This forest holds a good assemblage of eastern forest birds including ruby-throated hummingbird, a variety of woodpeckers, eastern wood-pewee, Acadian flycatcher, eastern phoebe, eastern kingbird, blue-gray gnatcatcher, brown thrasher, cedar waxwing, red-eyed vireo, ovenbird, northern cardinal, indigo bunting, eastern towhee, chipping sparrow, and eastern meadowlark. Just down the hill from the homestead is a small garden with numerous flowering bushes which attract a variety of butterflies. These include great spangled fritillary, eastern tiger swallowtail and silver-spotted skipper. Dragon- and damselflies in the area include widow skimmer and ebony jewelwing along the stream. While at the Reynolds Homestead, you may also want to visit the historic Reynolds home site and learn about the history of the area. In addition, Virginia Tech conducts a variety of research projects at the Homestead at its Forest Resources Research Center.
