The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) invites you to participate in the 2025 Restore the Wild Volunteer Day!

Each region is hosting its own trash pickup event, where volunteers are encouraged to join in cleaning up DWR-managed public lands and boat ramps. This is the perfect opportunity to assist with conservation efforts, meet other DWR volunteers and learn more about volunteering with DWR. Submit your interest by completing the form below!

What supplies will be provided?
Participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves or pick tongs to utilize. DWR will have a limited supply available for use.
Are there restrooms available?
No, there are no bathroom facilities at these locations. Our Wildlife Management Areas are located in remote areas and do not offer any running water, electricity, or restrooms.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
Participants must be 18 years of age or older. However, this is a family-friendly event. Minors are allowed to attend with a registered parent or guardian.
What to wear?
This information is dependent on the weather the day of event. However, it is recommended that you wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) require a fishing/hunting license or boating registration in order to access the public lands. Is this a requirement for this event?
No. The agency will waiver this requirement for registered participants.
Is there an inclement weather plan for event?
If the weather determines to be a hindrance, notifications will be sent out to all participants ahead of event.
